What is Functional Neurology?
Functional neurology focuses on the assessment, quantification, and rehabilitation of the human nervous system, using both sensory and cognitive based therapies, to promote integrity and optimize function through a concept called neuroplasticity.
Neurons are the functional cells of the nervous system and they communicate through synapses, or their connections to other neurons. Neuroplasticity refers to the ability of the brain to undergo structural or physiological changes in response to sensory experiences. Simply put, your brain can adapt based on what it is exposed to.
Functional neurology utilizes this concept of neuroplasticity to create new or strengthen connections through receptor-based-therapy. A wide range of methods may be used including:
- Specific adjustments
- Eye exercises
- Balance/Vestibular Rehabilitation
- Physical exercises
- Cognitive therapies, and more.
Conditions Treated:
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Concussion
- Dizziness/ Vertigo
- Neurodevelopmental Disorders
- Stroke
- ADHD
- Anxiety/Depression
- Neurodegenerative Disorders
- Etc.
