Chinese Medicine

What is Chinese medicine?

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is thousands of years old and has changed very little over centuries. TCM’s basic concept is that a vital force of life, called Qi, surges through the body. Any imbalance to Qi can cause disease and illness. This imbalance is thought to be caused by an alteration in the opposite and complementary forces that make up the Qi. These are called yin (negative energy) and yang (positive energy) which we feature in our logo.

Balance between health and disease is a key concept. TCM treatment seeks to restore this balance through treatment that is specific to each individual.

It is believed that to regain balance, you must achieve the balance between the internal body organs and the external elements of earth, fire, water, wood, and metal.

Dr. Dulce Corrales is our Doctor of Chinese medicine.  If you are seeking to regain balance in your life, we offer these treatments to help you:

  • Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being. Hundreds of clinical studies on the benefits of acupuncture show that it successfully treats conditions ranging from musculoskeletal problems (back pain, neck pain, and others) to nausea, migraine headache, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and infertility.

  • Acupressure Therapy

The goal of acupressure is to restore health and balance to the body's channels of energy and to regulate opposing forces of yin (negative energy) and yang (positive energy).  Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy in which pressure is applied to a specific point on the body. It is done to free up energy blockages that may cause health concerns from insomnia to menstrual cramps.

  • Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an alternative therapy that uses warmed glass jars to create suction on certain points of the body to stimulate your skin and muscles. It can be done on your face or body. The suction promotes increased blood circulation, which may help relieve muscle tension, promote cell repair, and aid in other regeneration.

  • Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage massage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage, relieves swelling that happens when medical treatment or illness blocks your lymphatic system. Lymphatic drainage massage involves gently manipulating specific areas of your body to help lymph move to an area with working lymph vessels.

  • Herbal Remedies

Traditional Chinese herbal remedies are a large part of TCM. They can be given as pills, teas, powders, liquid extracts or syrups. Hundreds of different types of herbs are used in TCM, and Dr. Dulce Corrales often uses combinations of herbs rather than a single herb to help bring you balance.

  • Lifestyle & Spiritual Counseling

Traditional Chinese medicine integrates holistic lifestyle recommendations and treatments for physical, mental, and emotional stressors to bring about balance and health.  Healthy lifestyle choices means making choices every day that will enhance health and help prevent disease. Quality foods, exercise, restorative sleep, avoidance of toxins, and stress management are all significantly in our personal control. Research demonstrates that many chronic diseases are largely caused by lifestyle choices and habits.  Dr. Dulce Corrales can help guide you on your journey to better health and spirituality.
